Cleano cleans your temp files every time you login
Filed under: Utilities, Windows, Freeware
Cleano is a free Windows utility that helps you keep your hard drive clean by deleting your temp files, run history, Internet explorer files, and other data. What sets Cleano apart from other utilities like CCleaner is its simple layout and a nifty little feature that lets you automatically cleanup files when you login to Windows.Cleano also happens to be a single tiny executable file, which makes this utility a perfect candidate for installation on a USB flash drive which you can use to do some basic cleaning operatings on your work and home computers, as well as the next time you visit your friends or family members who are always complaining that they're running out of space on their hard disk.

Yahoo! has rolled out an update for its real estate search engine. The new version loads pages more quickly but also requires fewer page loads since results are updates as soon as you change your criteria instead of after a page is refreshed. The company has also expanded the number of realtors it works with to provide more listings. In addition to a list of homes in your price range, neighborhood maps and links to the realtor web page (all of which you can probably find at your local newspaper's web site), Yahoo! offers detailed demographic information about neighborhoods. The company is also testing out video profiles of neighborhoods, although right now videos are only available or San Francisco listings.

We're starting something new at Download Squad: guest bloggers. This week, we're proud to welcome Saul Colt to the Download Squad family. Saul is "Head of Magic" at FreshBooks, a company which managed to bring the most boring task in the world -- accounts receivable -- to the web, and make it almost fun in the process.
I am very lucky because I have great parents who tried very hard to raise me with proper manners and values. I wasn't always the best kid and had to hear the following two warnings from my parents far more than I should have: "unlock the door or you will go blind" and "put the keyboard down...you are ruining any chance you might have for beautiful penmanship". Penmanship was a big deal in my house because even though my Dad is 6'4" and looks like a retired NBA All Star he has the kind of handwriting that Mavis Beacon could only dream of having.
My parents meant well but were only half right; I never went blind, but yes, I have horrible handwriting.
Thinking about the past got me thinking about the future and I wondered what I would be warning my kids about and I think the obvious answer is going to be Twitter!
Think about it...what is the real effect Twitter is having on society?
Give up?
Kids and grownups alike will start to not only talk, but think thoughts 140 characters at a time.
I know, I know, you are probably sitting reading this and thinking I am crazy -- but I swear I am already doing it. You can't imagine how many times I have stood naked in the shower (that is sorta a trick statement because I am always naked in the shower but I encourage you to imagine it anyway) dreaming up clever and witty things to post on Twitter.
Witty things like....

Filed under: OS Updates, Windows, Microsoft
Microsoft is set to release the (PRODUCT) RED version of Windows Vista Ultimate on December 15th. Dell has been selling computers preloaded with this special version of the OS for a few months now, but starting next week you'll be able to to buy a standalone copy.So what makes Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED different from plain old Windows Vista Ultimate Edition? First, it comes in a red box and includes a few extra wallpapers, screensavers, sidebar gadgets, and a Dreamscene moving background. Second, a portion of the proceeds from sales will help buy and distribute AIDS medications to patients in Africa.
Amazon appears to be selling it for about $70 more than the price of the vanilla edition of Windows Vista Ultimate, which means either that those wallpapers (which you can probably find online for free) are really awesome, or Microsoft or Amazon are jacking up the price a bit in order to support the charity.

Filed under: Utilities, Video, Windows, Commercial, Freeware
Clone2Go is a video conversion utility for Windows that accepts videos in a variety of formats (including WMV, MPG, MP4, or 3GP), and includes at least as many output options. What sets Clone2Go apart from some other video converters out there is that it makes batch video conversion a snap. Just add as many files to the queue as you like and click the start button to begin an encoding job. You can even configure Clone2Go to shutdown your computer when it's done.Another nice feature is Clone2Go's integrated web video downloader. You can grab videos from YouTube or Google Video just by entering a URL. There's also a built in video player, which lets you watch videos you've downloaded or converted.
Clone2Go is available as a free download. There are also commercial versions which includes additional conversion profiles for iPods, Zunes, and 3GP phones, as well as the ability to rip DVDs or save your custom configurations.
